Day 5: Reach for the Light

It’s Day #5 of using my Fitbit to the fullest. Like yesterday, my heart isn’t in writing this blog. I’m thinking of France and Beirut and Kenya and and and…. I’m wondering what can be done – what will be done. I’m wondering if we will go to war. I’m wondering if we should go to war.

This morning while I walked the dogs, frost was on the ground with temps in the high 30s. Even so, the sunflowers were doing their best to stay open. It’s in their nature to reach for the light. They reminded me it’s in human nature to do the same.

So I celebrate my Iowa Hawkeyes, who are 10-0 for the first time ever. My partner and I went to the grocery store and stopped at Lowe’s and considered buying a light fixture. With the shopping outings, I had my 10,000 steps in by 5 p.m. today. I made chili and ate it for lunch and dinner.

I’m doing my best to keep moving forward, taking my heavy heart with me, looking for the positive, the light. It’s there, even with all that is so very wrong in the world, it’s always there.
